Meet Lloyd Todd from York – who’s starring on E4’s brand new reality dating show.
From the creators of Married at First Sight Australia comes a brand new dating show: Love Triangle.
The first episode aired this week on Tuesday. The explosive show sees six singles (aka pickers) choose between two handpicked partners (aka suitors). Based on a connection made by texting only, the single and their chosen match meet on a blind date before moving in together.
What the singles don’t know, is that the pursuit of a ‘happy ever after’ comes with a twist – when the rejected match arrives looking for love.
Lloyd Todd is one of the suitors chosen by picker ZaraLena in episode two.
Lloyd, 27, has lived in York his whole life. He works in sales as a senior account manager for Cyclops Electronics, and has recently just started his own business Visuals Clothing.
Visuals Clothing is a luxury designer and activewear clothing company for men and women that stocks and sources clothing from the market to resell. For Lloyd, this has been a long-time ambition as he’s “always been massively into fashion”.
YorkMix caught up with Lloyd to find out more about his experience on the show.
You can watch Love Triangle on Channel 4 and E4 on Tuesday to Thursday nights, or catch up on the Channel 4 website.
Q&A with Lloyd Todd
What was your experience like on the show?
It’s the first thing I’ve done TV wise, and it was absolute carnage. It was emotional, it was foreign – it was just everything wrapped up into one.
How did you get on the show?
I actually got asked to do the show a week before it started, so you can imagine that week my head was all over the place! They’d messaged me through Instagram and said that they were interested in speaking to me about a potential show – and so I jumped on a video call with a casting producer and that day they said ‘we really like you, we want you on the show’. I thought it’d be four or six months down the line, but they called me back and said ‘Can you get four weeks off work in a week?’ The conversation with my boss was pretty amusing – she just burst out laughing. My work have been fantastic though, they’ve been so supportive and I can’t thank them enough for that.
Was the experience anything like you expected it to be?
There was so much going on. The first date I went on was pretty much like I got a call on the Friday saying ‘you’ve been chosen by ZaraLena, pack your bags for four weeks we’re picking you up tomorrow to come to Manchester’. I’m quite a spontaneous person so I was half nervous but very excited. I always think with these sorts of things if you get an opportunity like this, just go for it – I’ll put myself out of my comfort zone and just do it.
Obviously I’ve seen these sorts of reality shows before, so I think the thing for me was just seeing what it was like behind the scenes, with the camera crew and how it was all made and produced. The first day was crazy, I was so nervous and there was all these cameras and about 50 people running in and out of this restaurant. I remember I was stood outside thinking ‘What have I done?’ There was a lot of waiting around too.
What has the reaction been like?
Everyone has just been so supportive. We had a little screening at work to watch it with everyone. I’m so thankful to everyone for their support, all my friends and even on socials and people I’ve met everyone has just been so friendly.
What were some of the challenges of the show?
There’s certain aspects of it that you don’t expect and you need to be very open-minded and keep your sanity through that. I think because we didn’t have phones or any contact to the outside world for four weeks, and you’re in this environment where you’re with someone you don’t even know – you’ve got to be really mentally prepared to just cut off. Coming out of the show it took me a little while to get used to the outside world again because, even though it’s only four weeks, it starts to feel like that’s your life.
What has been your biggest takeaway from this experience?
Some of the people on the show were massive characters, and I think some characters were amplified on screen. For myself, I always said I’ll just stay true to myself and not change for the cameras and be someone that I’m not – so I hope that’s reflected on the show. So I think the takeaway for me was not changing myself for anything or anyone.
