Just when fans thought the wait was finally over, York City’s debut at the new stadium has been postponed again.
After years of delays, the LNER Community Stadium was finally completed in December.
And following one last wrangle, concerning legal issues with the lease, the first match was in the diary – York City vs Gateshead next Tuesday (19 January).
But as we reported on Monday, the squad has been hit with cases of Covid-19 leading to the postponement of the game against AFC Fylde this week – what was due to be the last game at Bootham Crescent.
The Gateshead game has now gone the same way.
The club said: “We have received confirmation that Tuesday night’s game against Gateshead will be postponed due to the required self-isolation period of our squad.
“Our next scheduled fixture will be a trip to AFC Telford United on Saturday 23 January.
“The first game at the LNER Community Stadium is scheduled for Saturday 30 January against Curzon Ashton.
“We wish all our staff, players and families well during this time.”
