At the end of a busy day shift, firefighters were called out to a dramatic-sounding incident on a normally quiet North Yorkshire road.
At 4.12pm, reports came in of a fire in Back Lane, Selby.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Huntington and Tadcaster attended reports of a car that had exploded and then set fire to a number of nearby hay bales.”
They used a portable otter pump, a hose reel jet and pitchforks to put out the fire.
Earlier, North Yorkshire crews had tackled two combine harvester fires – one in Main Street, Thixendale and another in Sittenham Hill, Bulmer. Both fires then spread to the surrounding field before being extinguished by firefighters.
