A driver needed treatment after their car caught fire on the motorway in North Yorkshire today (Saturday)
Emergency services were called to the incident on the A1M southbound at Bedale at 9.23am.
Firefighters from Northallerton, Ripon and Bedale found it well alight when they arrived.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews used breathing apparatus equipment to safely extinguish the fire using a hose reel jet.
“A thermal camera was also used to identify hot spots and monitor the engine temperature whilst water was applied.
“Crews also administered oxygen therapy to the driver who suffered smoke inhalation as a precaution until ambulance staff were able to medically assess them.”
Later, at 1.26pm, York firefighters responded to a caravan with a overheated axle on the A19 at Selby.
Crews cooled it with a bucket of water and carried out checks with a thermal imaging camera.
