A bus crashed off a bridge and careered down a 30ft embankment into a river this afternoon (Saturday, 3 August).
It happened at Grosmont near Whitby at 1.40pm.
Ambulance, fire and coastguard teams went to the scene with police to help in the rescue operation.

The incident happened on Barnard’s Road, near Front Street. The single decker bus landed in a shallow section of the River Esk.
Two people suffered minor injuries.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Thankfully, the five people on the bus escaped serious injury.
“Ambulance, fire and rescue and coastguard teams attended the scene along with the police to bring the occupants of the bus to safety.
“Heavy lifting gear is required to recover the bus and structural engineers are inspecting the badly damaged bridge.
“Highways teams have put in place a hard closure at the scene.
“The incident is believed to be a single vehicle collision.”
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Whitby attended a road traffic collision involving a bus which had collided with a bridge and ended up on its side in the River Esk.
“On arrival, three passengers and the driver were all safely out of the vehicle.
“Two casualties sustained minor injuries. Crews assisted the police with scene safety.”
Diversions are in place. Road users and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
