As they say in the horse racing world, the winner takes it all…
And this year that song, along may other classics from ABBA’s back catalogue, will bring a day of racing to a musical end.
Because the fab Björn Again are to headline the Music Showcase Weekend at York Racecourse on Saturday, 27 June.
The ABBA tribute band have amassed 5,000 performances in 72 countries in 31 years.
They have toured with Cher, Shania Twain and played at Wembley Arena, London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall, London Palladium and Hyde Park.
Now to top them all, a gig at York Racecourse.
Karaoke and fancy dress
The announcement today (Wednesday) follows on from the news that Pussycat Dolls and Rick Astley will play the racecourse in July.
Head of marketing James Brennan said:
-
We wanted to offer people the chance to have fun, we hope in the sun, and what better way than in celebrating all things ABBA.
You only have to remember how popular the Mamma Mia films and Mamma Mia The Party have been to understand the affection across the country for the famous Swedish quartet.
Live music from the big stage will follow seven races.
Earlier in the afternoon there will be the fun of karaoke featuring ABBA songs as well as a silent Abba disco.
Prizes will be available for racegoers taking part in the 1970s Fancy Dress Contest. You are invited to create a stylish look from favourites such as flares, platform boots, 1970s jackets and kipper ties.
Tickets start at £25, with under 18s admitted free with a paying adult.
