Something horrible is coming to York next year…
The stage versions of the first two books in the Horrible Histories series will be performed in York next year – and the much-loved author of the successful series, Terry Deary, visited the Grand Opera House to take a look around.
Terrible Tudors and Awful Egyptians is at the Grand Opera House from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 March 2025.
The author enjoyed a tour of the venue on his visit and met an interesting character or two along the way – and agrees that York is the perfect location.
“Horrible Histories have been around for thirty-one years now,” said Terry Deary. “It’s just wonderful to come back to York – which is honestly one of the easiest Horrible History books to write, because York’s history is so horrible!
“We’re bringing Terrible Tudors and Awful Egyptians, which were the first two Horrible Histories to be written all those years ago, to the Grand Opera House York. So I hope everyone enjoys it, and I really look forward to hearing what everyone has to say about our plays.”
Described as history with the nasty bits left in, the stories include historical figures with events coming alive on stage.
The shows are brought to the stage by Birmingham Stage Company – and will feature eye-popping 3D special effects that aim to thrill adults and children alike.
Tickets for the two shows start from £15 and are available via the ATG website.
