A York swimming pool has reopened after being closed for days due to the nation chlorine shortage.
The pool at York Sport in Heslington was shut from Saturday (25 June) but reopened yesterday (Thursday).
A lack of chlorine was “caused by a range of factors including a reduction in production due to Covid-19, transport restrictions and the war in Ukraine,” York Sport said on their website.
Initially they were concerned that they wouldn’t get another delivery of sodium hypochlorite – chlorine – until 11 July. But they managed to source a delivery earlier allowing the pools to reopen.
In the website post, York Sport says: “We have received enough chemicals to ensure that the pools will be open for approximately one month.
“Closing the pools is the last thing we want to do, and we are working with our supplier to ensure that we can continue operating as normal, having already placed our next order this morning.
“As the national chlorine shortage is ongoing, we are unable to guarantee that we will not face further issues in the future.”
Members were being given a 25% discount or extra week’s membership in response to the pool being closed.
