A much awaited shop is set to open in York this week.
Active-wear brand JD Sports has been getting ready to move into the empty 1-5 Davygate retail unit. Now, after months of work, it’s set to open on Thursday 13 March.
The leading retailer of sports, fashion and lifestyle brands will have a ‘bigger and better’ presence in York, with the new store at 5,807sq ft and a 69% increase in trading space vs the previous Coney Street store.
Staff from the Coney Street shop will transfer across, and six new jobs have already been created.
The Davygate unit was previously home to Superdry, and was originally created for Borders bookshop.
Customers can expect a larger range of products, and all their favourite brands including Nike, Adidas, The North Face, and Under Armour.

If you head down to the new store this opening weekend (Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 March) – you can expect a bit of a party!
DJs across the weekend will provide the ultimate shopping soundtrack and you can try your hand at the viral ‘Drop Catch’ game for the chance to win JD gift cards to spend in-store.
Opening hours for JD Sports on Davygate will be Monday to Friday 9am-9pm, Saturday 9am-7pm, and Sunday 10am-4pm.
Parent company JD Outdoors now has a large presence in York, including its huge Go Outdoors store at Vangarde, Go Outdoors Express on Market Street, and a JD Sports branch at Monks Cross.
