We asked you to snap to it, and you didn’t disappoint. Entries to our York Photo Competition are capturing all sides of our fantastic city.
There’s still plenty of time to send in your picture – and the chance to win £250 or other great prizes. For inspiration here is the first selection from the entries so far.
Odeon rainbow
“This photo was taken on 30 December, 2012, a mild, showery day in the Christmas holidays,” writes the photographer Janet Bennett.
“The rainbow appeared, I took the picture quickly with my mobile phone, then it disappeared just as quickly. A glimpse of hope on a grey day. Life goes on in York whatever old buildings come and go.
“Is this the spirit of York? You can decide, but I thought it was a nice picture!”
Busker
This monochrome image by John Vause captures one of the street entertainers which are now such an integral part of the city centre experience, particularly in summer.
Best friends
Catherine Pryce sent us a series of pictures of these young best friends who, in this picture, “love to babble”! The pair were enjoying a sunny day at Goddards on Tadcaster Road.
River Ouse
The River Ouse is so much a part of York’s personality that it’s no surprise to see it featured in a number of entries so far. Lauren Ruddock cleverly frames a sunny river view through a detail on the bridge.
Rainbows for sale
Very different rainbows from the one above, these caught the eye of Samantha Simpson, taken during York Pride in June.
Morning paddle
Another view of the river on an altogether chillier day. Martin Ogle’s Early Morning Paddle shows the unmistakeable York cityscape, and the dedication of the rowers below.
