York man charged with attempted rape after woman followed home

Police have charged a man with attempted rape following an incident where a woman was followed home in Walmgate, York.

The man, who is 22, was arrested by detectives investigating the assault on Monday evening (October 27) and charged on Tuesday (October 28).

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 29.

Officers have thanked the media and the many members of the public who have come forward with information since the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 26.
