Spectacular York light show to return as a drive-in event this autumn
The organisers of the Autumn Lights event at Elvington say it will remain a drive-in event this year.
By doing the same last year, they were able to stage the show while adhering to Covid restrictions – and 2,500 cars attended.
Organiser Oliver Webb says they have had lots of feedback suggesting that it should be based on people bringing in their cars again. So that’s what they are going to do

Autumn Lights Yorkshire, on Saturday 20 November is a ‘spectacle of light’, with a hot air balloon glow, a huge fireworks display, roaming entertainers, a funfair and food and drink.
Last year a space was allocated next to each car where people could sit in their social bubbles.
“Obviously, it was a very difficult year for a lot of people. So to actually get together at the end of the year and celebrate like that was was really special,” Oliver told YorkMix.
“But a lot of the feedback was was people asking if they could if we could keep it the same next year – ie the driving aspect really worked well.
“It is a family event and at that time of year, it gets quite cold. So it’s quite handy to have your car there to put the kids in and warm them up and put them under a blanket.”
So Autumn Lights 2021 is a drive-in event once more. Prices start at £40 per car.
