City of York Council is launching a new website to help local people find the support they need today (Monday 4 November).
Connect to Support York is an online market place which enables older people, those with disabilities, or those who simply need some support to remain independent, to shop for support services and products, find local activities and groups and look up information and advice.
The website has already proven popular in other authorities across the region, and adult services’ chiefs are hoping it will prove a hit in York too.
It brings together several resources that will give adults in the city a new and innovate way of finding out what options are available to meet their needs.
Councillor Tracey Simpson Laing, Cabinet member for Health, Housing and Adult Social Services, City of York Council, said: “We know that remaining independent is one of people’s main concerns, particularly as they get older or struggle to get out of their house.
“Connect to Support will enable them and their carers to shop for support services and make links to groups and activities within their local community where and when they want to, helping them to take control of their own lives.”
Michael Melvin, Safeguarding and Assessment manager, City of York Council, said: “Connect to Support provides the people of York with even more choice about how they search for, and access the support services they need.
“The existing services provided by the council’s adult social care teams will remain unchanged, so the website is an alternative way to find out what options are available. I hope it will prove popular with customers and their carers.”
