Where will you see the Virgin Mary alongside a Jägermeister Luge?

Or Night King from Game Of Thrones, the Lego Batman and a Gold Crested Newt all sharing the same bill?

York Ice Trail 2017

York city centre

Sat Dec 9 and Sun Dec 10 @ 10am-5pm

More details

The answer is on the York Ice Trail, which takes place on December 8 and 9.

This year will feature 45 separate icy sculptures, making it is the biggest outdoor event of its kind in Britain.

Using chainsaws and chisels, the team from Glacial Art will turn 10 tonnes of ice into the remarkably detailed figures.

Now organised by Make It York the frozen creations have been sponsored by businesses from across the city.

Six things to do

The York Dungeon’s stocks are back this year

Pick up a map: A York Ice Trail map is available from the Visit York Information Centre, and younger ice hunters will get a free explorer badge

Win with TalkTalk: In St Sampson’s Square you can peer into the sky through overall event sponsor TalkTalk’s Telescope and collect a ‘chill to reveal’ card for a chance to win a prize.

Watch live carving sessions: Artists from Glacial Art will showcase the skill behind the icy creations in St Helen’s Square at 3pm on both days.

See The Mighty Viking: Provided by Hungate York Regeneration, he is the largest sculpture on the trail standing at 2m tall

Find out more: “If you see someone in a ‘Glacial Art’ jacket please come and say hello if you have any questions,” said Mat Foster, the company’s creative director.

Enjoy some treats: There will be food and drink at the street food stalls and in Shambles Market

And you can also see a sculpture at Castle Howard.
