There are many excellent reasons to come to York on holiday.
The wonderful people, the fine food, independent shops, a fair old smattering of history…
And now another can be added to that list. The city has one of the best holiday homes on the planet.
Bang in the city centre
This week global go-to travel website TripAdvisor has announced its first ever Travellers’ Choice awards for holiday properties to rent.
And a York city centre apartment has been named in the list of the best 30 in the world.
Gillygate Central, an individually designed property with wooden floors, won a place in the top 10 affordable properties category.
The awards are based on traveller reviews and opinions, as well as service provided during the booking process.
It means that Gillygate Central is hobnobbing with fellow affordable holiday home winners like The Hoblet, a wooden cabin close to Niagara Falls, and a condo with outdoor terrace close to the Vatican in Rome.
Gillygate Central is a one-bedroom apartment at the city centre end of the famous street, making it very close to the Minster and many more York attractions
It sleeps four, because the two chairs convert into beds if needed, and prices start at £88 per night.
It comes with a welcome pack including bread, tea, milk, biscuits and a bottle of prosecco.
With a five-star TripAdvisor rating from 88 reviews, these are typical Gillygate Central endorsements:
I hasten to add there is no noise inside the apartment, which is decorated and furnished to an extremely high standard.
“Traveller reviews and opinions are at the heart of everything we do at TripAdvisor, and we rely on the traveller community to determine the winners of the Travellers’ Choice® awards for rentals,” said Dermot Halpin, president of TripAdvisor attractions and rentals.
“These homes—and their owners – are travellers’ top picks and a wonderful representation of the hundreds of thousands of amazing properties we list all over the world.”
