The Autumn Lights event, postponed this month because of the Covid lockdown, has been given the go-ahead for the new date of the 17 December.
But there are now fewer than 100 tickets left, so you will need to book quickly.
The event was due to be a Bonfire Night special, as it was originally scheduled for 5 November. But the new lockdown scuppered that.
After York was put in Tier 2, the new date looked hopeful.
And today (Friday) City of York Council confirmed that government guidance makes it clear that drive-in events like this are permitted in Tier 2 areas.
The full spectacle will go ahead – featuring a huge fireworks display with music, a hot air balloon night glow, street food and fire shows, all at Elvington Airfield.
The organisers said: “We’re delighted to say that the event will go ahead on 17th December!
“Don’t forget you can bring your own picnic and set up camping chairs next to your vehicle and enjoy the shows in comfort and safety.
“Wrap up warm though as it’s likely to be cold.
“We can’t wait to put on a great show for you all after such a tough year!”
