York City’s assistant manager told to stay away from games and training ‘indefinitely’ – as betting probe goes on
York City have today confirmed that assistant manager Micky Cummins will be absent from all fixtures and training indefinitely.
He is being investigated by the FA over a possible breach of the betting rules.
In a statement, City said: “York City Football Club can confirm that assistant manager Micky Cummins will be absent from all fixtures and training indefinitely.
“After discussions with the management team, we feel this is the best course of action whilst we await a verdict from the FA on a charge relating to historical breaches of FA betting rules.
“Youth team manager Tim Ryan will step in and support Steve Watson in the dugout this Saturday against Blyth Spartans.”
YorkMix reported yesterday that City defender Joshua King has been fined £750 and banned for a month by the FA after being found guilty of breaching betting rules.
King placed 139 bets over two seasons on football matches – including one on a City match where he was a subsitute.
That followed City player Michael Woods being fined £250 by the FA in July after placing 71 bets.
At the time of the offences, he was furloughed from either Dover Athletic or York City, and had taken a job as a delivery driver – and “was thinking of myself as a former footballer, current van driver,” he told the hearing.
“The individuals affected will be supported with further education in line with the clear club policies in place and we will continue to liaise with the FA on the matter,” the club statement said.
