A York bowls club will be hosting a national sporting event next week.
Lawn bowls organisation Visually Impaired Bowls England (VIBE) will be holding their national triples event at York Railway Bowls & Social Club, Holgate, from Tuesday 13 to Thursday 15 August.
VIBE is the recognised body to oversee Lawn Bowls for the Visually Impaired in England.
“We are very proud to have been asked to host this event and are very much looking forward it,” said Mick O’Donnell, bowls manager at York Railway Bowls & Social Club.
Visitors are encouraged to come along and watch the event.
Town crier, Ben Fry, will be there welcoming guests from 9:20am on Tuesday 13 August, and the Lord Mayor will also be in attendance.
The Lord Mayor will be there on Tuesday from 1:40pm, to welcome those attending, chat with players and the VIBE team, and to watch some of the play.
Visually Impaired Bowls England exists to ‘promote the sport of Lawn Bowls for people who have a visual impairment, from complete novices to players of international standard’, it says on their website.
The organisation was first formed in 1975, and organises competitions at regional and national levels.
