A thief’s attempts to steal a bike from York city centre could have been caught on camera, police say.
They believe a member of the public videoed the man’s criminal activity and are appealing for the witness to share the footage with them.
It happened on Blossom Street at 8.30pm on Monday (4 April), and involved a male suspect attempting to steal a cycle locked to a bike rack.
He was seen to use a tool of some kind. However, he failed in his attempt, leaving the locks badly damaged.
He then rode away from the scene, travelling across Blossom Street towards Moss Street.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“In particular, we are appealing for information from a member of the public who may have filmed this incident and may hold vital information which could assist the investigation.”
