Woman dies and cyclist breaks arm in separate road accidents
A woman has died and a cyclist was injured in separate road accidents in York on Tuesday (February 17).
At about 11am a silver Ford Fiesta hit a lamppost in Drummond View, Bishopthorpe.
The driver, a 74-year-old local woman, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for four hours while officers investigated. Meanwhile, power was cut to some properties because of damage to the lamppost.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision.

Later, at about 2.20pm, emergency services were called to an accident on Fulford Road in York.
A collision, involving a 4×4 vehicle and a bicycle, occured close to the entrance to the Aldi and Iceland stores.
Paramedics treated the cyclist for a suspected broken arm. Fire crews assisted the ambulance with the casualty and helped make the scene safe.
The road was closed in both directions while debris was cleared.
