Five ways to keep warm this winter
The Safegas team of qualified, directly employed engineers are committed to keeping residents warm and have other tips and advice this winter.
1. Service your boiler
It is important to have your boiler checked once a year by a Gas Safe Registered engineer, like the ones from Safegas, to ensure that it’s running smoothly and safely. Servicing your boiler could save you money on larger repair bills and can extend the life of your boiler.
2. Install a new boiler
Installing a new boiler can often feel like a big expense but can save you up to £305 a year in running costs. The latest boilers are a lot more energy efficient than older models. Check the age of the boiler and if it is Energy Saving Trust recommended. Boilers have energy ratings, much in the same way as homes.
3. Fit a carbon monoxide detector
Every year approximately 50 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning associated with domestic gas appliances, due mainly to these appliances not having been properly installed or maintained. As well as following the tips above, install a carbon monoxide alarm.
4. Look at available grants
The Energy Company Obligation was introduced to help reduce the amount of energy we use and help those living in fuel poverty. At Safegas we advise customers on whether they may be eligible for a grant, which could include a new boiler. We are just a phone call away.
5. Bleed your radiators
If your radiators are colder at the top than they are at the bottom, then your radiators may have trapped air inside them that’s stopping the heat from circulating properly. Bleeding the radiators releases the air, allowing the radiator to run more efficiently and ensuring you and your family stay warmer this winter.
