The Lord Mayor, Town Crier and Spot the Dog will be joining the celebrations as Waterstones York throws open the doors of its new Coney Street home.
Town Crier Michael Wood will herald the arrival of the new store at 11am on Saturday, April 26. Lord Mayor of York Cllr Julie Gunnell will cut the ribbon to officially declare the bookshop open at 11.15am.
The shop will then host a family fun day, featuring balloon modelling, a live drawing and book-signing session from author/ illustrator Chris Mould and appearances from storybook favourite Spot the Dog.
The new store
Waterstones High Ousegate will cease to trade today (Friday, April 25), before Coney Street opens on Saturday.
Waterstones Coney Street will have a retailing space of more than 7,200ft spread across two floors.
It will feature a new light oak bookcase and slat wall design, expanded ranges of fiction and history books, and a children’s department with play area and slide.
Naturally brimming with many wonderful books, the bookshop will also be home to a range of stationery and gifts. And there’s free wi-fi too.
Meanwhile, the in-store Café W will be offering buy one get one free on coffee on Saturday and Sunday (April 26 and 27).
Serving triple certified coffee from Matthew Algie – approved by the Fairtrade Foundation, Rainforest Alliance and Organic Food Federation – and a unique and delicious range of handmade cakes and pastries sourced from local artisan bakers and specialist producers, Café W looks to be another tasty edition to York’s food and drink options.
