Where can you get the best brunch in York?
It seems like an impossible question, but our readers didn’t disappoint!

Whether you like your eggs poached or fried, the trendy smashed avocado, pancakes with all the toppings, or just a good old fry up – you won’t be disappointed by these brunches.
Some of these places are currently open for outside dining and/or operating a takeaway service. Some won’t be reopening at all until the government planned date of 17 May.

Serving breakfast until 11:30am, there’s plenty of time to get your brunch fix here! With traditional breakfasts, eggs of all kinds, buttermilk pancakes, delicious smoothies, and more to choose from – you’ll be spoilt for choice. Reopening May 17.
The Blue Barbakan

This independent restaurant on Fossgate serves predominately Polish cuisine – and a delicious brunch! Currently operating as takeaway only with a limited menu, but once its reopened fully do yourself a favour and book a brunch here. Their full English breakfast is one of the best.
Brew & Brownie
5 Museum Street YO1 7DT York
Famous for their spectacular pancakes – and many other yummy sweet and savoury treats. Normally it’s hard to get a table in here, so make sure to get here early (or be prepared to wait!) Currently open for click and collect or order at the door.
1 Peter Lane YO1 8SW York
This little gem is tucked away down Peter Lane, next to Superdrug. But venture down and you’ll discover a friendly and warm cafe, with lots of tasty treats to try. Choose from sandwiches, paninis, breakfasts and more! Takeaway is sometimes available, please check the website for updates.

This is somewhere that always has mouth-watering treats on offer. So why not treat yourself and give one (or several…) a try? The interior is also beautiful and cosy – even if the stairs are a little precarious! For now, it is takeaway only.

The inside of this bar and restaurant is full of grandeur and eccentricities – and the food tastes as good as it looks! Serving brunch until 5pm every day, here you can just keep going, and going, and going. Reopening May 17.

This one is very popular with our readers! Stop at this independent coffee shop and restaurant on Micklegate and you can look forward to all day brunch dishes such as French toast, eggs benedict, and cooked breakfasts served in a skillet. Yum!

Another brunch place that was hugely popular with our readers. Located on the beautiful Bishy road, this place is worth a detour out of the city centre. With dish names like ‘The Benedict Cumberland’ and ‘Hip-hop-a-pot-hummus’, you know you’re in for a treat.
