Windrush The Years After: A Community Legacy on Film
Fri Oct 15 @ 6.00 pm – 9.00 pm
We are so excited to celebrate Black History Month on Friday 15th October 2021 by bringing this Heritage Lottery Funded documentary to York.
The film provides a new and unique snapshot of African Caribbean descendants living in West Yorkshire for the last 72 years. The stories are heartfelt, challenging, and courageous, showing resilience to pursue equality of opportunity in Britain.
The film is presented by Pop Up York and Film at the Folk Hall and will be screened on a 16 foot screen in high definition. The relaxed atmosphere, table seating and licensed bar provides a friendly and sociable feel to screenings that you cannot get in mainstream cinemas.
6pm: Doors & bar open
6:30pm: Food served
7pm: Introduction & Film
8:30pm: Q&A with Special Guests
Thanks to the generous funding by the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust this event and the Caribbean food options are offered at only £3 per ticket, all of which will be donated to the Windrush Foundation!
The food will be provided by Mai’s Caribbean Cuisine on Poppleton Road with both an authentic chicken and vegetarian curry available.
We are proud to welcome along special guest speakers including film maker, Milton Brown, from Kirklees Local TV and contributor Louise Muhammad.
