Halloween at Castle Howard
Sat Oct 16 – Sun Oct 31
Halloween mischief returns to Castle Howard this October, with a host of fun to enjoy!
Can you help our Skelves enchant the grounds in order to keep the magical beasts out and protect Ray Wood from dragon fire, pixie damage, and rampaging war horses? During the Halloween, the magical beasts grow in power and the Skelves need all the help they can get to keep the beasts at bay!
Join us on our magical adventure through Ray Woods as we try to find these Magical Beasts, led by one of our Chief Skelves. What Magical Beasts lurks there? What can you do to help protect our magical wood? Are you brave enough?!
Guided Interactive Trails
Join the Skelves for daily interactive trails around Ray Wood in search of the troublesome magical beasts from Saturday 23rd – Sunday 31st October.
Our adventure begins and end at the playground, Skelf Island. Performances will be at 10:30, 12:00 and 13:30 each day. Tours do not need to be pre booked, and access is included within the cost of a Gardens only admission ticket (free for Friends of Castle Howard).
These sessions are great for people of all ages, but specifically aimed at younger explorers from ages 4-11.
Ray Wood Walks
Enjoy your own self guided trail through Ray Wood with one of our Halloween Trail Sheets. Spot magical beasts and solve puzzles as you make your way around the woodland trails. Trail sheets will be available from the Ticket Office on your arrival.
You can enjoy a self guided trail in Ray Wood from Saturday 16th October – Sunday 31st October.
You can also try your hand at Broomstick Making, using materials collected in our very own enchanted woods by our Forestry team. This enchanting craft-based Skelf led activity will also include learning how to fly your broomstick! Hop-on board with this fun-filled activity.
Sessions will take place daily from 23rd – 31st October at 11:00, 12:30 and 14:00. Tickets are free of charge but must be booked in advance.
All of our Halloween activities can be enjoyed free with a Castle Howard Gardens admission ticket or Friends of Castle Howard Card.
We recommend you wrap up for the weather and bring your wellies – Ray Wood can get a bit muddy at this time of year! We can’t wait to welcome you!
