The final consultation starts this week on the controversial scheme which saw traffic diverted away from the Groves in York.

More than a year ago, City of York Council instigated the trial which stopped through-traffic cutting through the ward.

Now it is asking for people to take part in the third and last consultation – with the feedback being used to help prepare a report which will recommend what happens next.

Cllr Andy D’Agorne, executive member for transport, said: “The scheme was developed through local consultation and residents’ events in response to concerns raised by them, particularly regarding the level of traffic travelling through the area.

“We want to hear about their experiences and those of other road users, cyclists and pedestrians.

“Our aim with the trial has been to embed active travel – walking and cycling – as part of a long-term habit. Streets which are less congested or car-dominated lead to much improved road safety, better air quality and improved health and wellbeing.

“However, it is crucial that the measures work for all residents, businesses and community organisations in the area. We’ve been engaging closely with residents and businesses and continue to do so with this latest consultation. Please do take part in the consultation.”
