A shocking video has emerged showing the moment a youth brutally kicked a cat high into the air on a York street.
And the cat owner believes the perpetrator is part of a group that have attacked other cats before.
The CCTV footage shows a youth in a hoodie approach the dark-coloured cat on Etty Avenue, just off Alcuin Avenue, in Tang Hall on Friday evening.
The trusting animal approaches him, perhaps expecting to be stroked.
Instead, the perpetrator gives the cat a huge kick lifting it up into the air.
Lorraine Sullivan is the owner of the cat, called Nova. She has reported the incident to police.
She told YorkMix: “A group of kids walked down Etty Avenue and booted my cat about 10ft through the air.
“Thankfully it was caught on CCTV.
“I’ve no idea why they have done this. It’s sickening.
“Nova’s swollen on her belly and in some discomfort. She’s also extremely frightened of everyone now and is hiding upstairs in my bedroom.”
She had this message for people in the area. “If you have cats in the Tang Hall area please try to keep them in!”
Lorraine claimed “the group are known for attacking cats”. The CCTV appears to show another two young people, one videoing the attack on Nova.
The perpetrator then runs back to join them, they watch the video and then leave.
If you have any information that could help police with their investigation, please call them on 101.
