Watch: ‘I’m on cloud 9¾’ – Harry Potter fan makes a magical marriage proposal outside York shop
Something a bit magical happened on Shambles…
The Shop That Must Not Be Named on the famous York street – known informally as the Harry Potter shop – is a haven for any fans of the wizarding stories.
And one couple took the big step right outside it – in a very spell-binding proposal!
Watch the heart-warming video below…
It created a great reaction from the passersby on Shambles yesterday (Tuesday), with audible “awws” and claps as people offered their congratulations to the couple.
The proposal had been a month in the planning, when Lauren Smith – sister to the young man, Ben Smith – asked if The Shop That Must Not Be Named could help out with her brother’s planned proposal.
The lucky lady, Lydia Pugh, is a huge Harry Potter fan, so the plan was for her to see the special poster in the window…at which her boyfriend would be down on one knee!
A spokesperson from The Shop That Must Not Be Named commented that it “worked a charm!”
It certainly did.
The shop also posted on Facebook to say that it was “so special to be a small part of this lovely proposal”.
Lydia also posted on Facebook to say “I’m on cloud 9 and ¾”.
We wish the happy couple all the happiness for the future!
