A young busker broke down after a poignant gesture by one man in her audience.
Mia Kirkland has been singing on the streets of York since lockdown and posts many of her performances on her TikTok channel, which has 417K followers and 10.5 million likes.
She was performing on Parliament Street last week when, after she finished a song, a man came up and gave her flowers.
He told her: “My wife has just died of cancer and that has just made my day.”
A tearful Mia told her audience on TikTok: “This man just came up to me and gave me flowers and said that his wife just died of cancer. And he gave me £5.
“It’s so sad. I’m crying. You could see it in his eyes that he was about to cry – I am crying.”
The video has been played nearly 50,000 times, and garnered loads of love from users.
“What a lovely thing for the man to do,” commented Jayne. “It’s also nice to be appreciated.”
“You’ve held his pain for just a moment with your music,” said libraryvixen.
And Jones JDM added: “I recognise that voice, he’s absolutely lovely. He’s doing his wife so proud.”
