From Space Man to locksmith – Eurovision icon Sam Ryder can make marvellous music about anything, it turns out!
Chris Long, 40, started up his locksmith business Longs Locks just last week, covering York and Selby.
And this week Eurovision superstar Sam Ryder has created an advertising jingle for it.
It comes as Sam is in more demand than ever. The pop sensation, who came second in the Eurovision Song Contest last year, debuted his new single ‘Mountain’ at this year’s Eurovision final in Liverpool.
YorkMix Radio breakfast presenters Laura and Leigh spoke with Chris to find out more.
Chris’s wife, Laura, was watching Sam Ryder’s Instagram Live, where he was playing live songs on his acoustic guitar.
Then he asked viewers to drop their numbers in the comment box as he was going to call different numbers at random for a chat – and Laura was one of the lucky callers!
While on the phone with Sam, the couple, from Brayton chatted about their family and what they were up to. Chris told Sam that they’d just recently set up a new business.
“We just had a bit of fun from there,” said Chris.
“I told him about a radio jingle that I’ve dreamt about, and I sang it to him. He started strumming away on his guitar and played a song and combined it with my jingle.
“I was in absolute disbelief, I just couldn’t believe it.”
Longs Locks offers locksmith services around York, Selby and the surrounding areas. They launched on Monday 15 May.

Sam Ryder is set to headline the Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta at Castle Howard on Sunday 27 August, and Chris has already got his ticket to the gig.
As YorkMix Radio are hosting, Laura said that they are “bringing Sam Ryder out onto the stage and having a chat with him, and we are absolutely going to be asking him to sing this jingle”.
“That’d be amazing,” said Chris. “I’ll be standing there with my ticket held high. It would make our year.”
