Ghosty goings on at a haunted York pub have been caught on camera.
Just in time for Halloween, paranormal investigators from the YouTube channel Ghost Quest TV have released their video from an exploration of the Black Swan, Peasholme Green in York.
The 15th century pub was a good place to choose. It’s said to be haunted by lots of ghosts, including a gentleman in a bowler hat sat at the bar, a jilted bride staring into the fire and a Victorian boy pickpocket.
In the video, renowned ghost tour host Mark Graham talks through some of the Black Swan sightings down the years.
Then the Ghost Quest team settle in for the night, equipped with sensitive recording gear designed to pick up any supernatural activity.
“I chose the Black Swan in York because I’d always known about it and was fascinated with the stories I was hearing about the place,” said founder of Ghost Quest TV Ben Redhead.
They filmed on the night of 2 July – and he said they weren’t disappointed.
“Lots of strange things happened on the night. Strange tapping sounds, high transient EMF (electro magnetic field) readings and team members claiming to be attacked!
“We have captured the voice of a female spirit who appeared to be following me around the building and spoke to us through our spirit box device several times throughout the night.
“We captured an amazing EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) in a room that nobody was in or even near. It appears to be a woman whispering and is really quite amazing to hear!”
Adam was the team member who was attacked. “He was upstairs in the bedroom and suddenly got over me with emotion and was in tears when I got to him,” Ben told YorkMix.
“He also claims he was scratched.”
Ben, who works in the camera department in broadcast television for his day job, became interested in photography after suffering from extreme anxiety disorder in his teens.
He found his hobby of taking photographs helped counter the condition. Then he combined this passion with his love of the paranormal to set up Ghost Quest TV – and has been panic attack free for many years.
The team have done two previous investigations in York. The first was at a building on Stonegate which used to be owned by the late astrologer Jonathan Cainer.
Run as a paranormal museum called Haunted, it has since become home to the Oliver Bonas shop. “It was one of the most active buildings I have ever investigated in my life!” Ben said.
“I’m hoping after the place had a serious cleansing before it became Oliver Bonas, and that the spirits or whatever it is that resided in that building are now at rest.”
And they also did a promotional film for the York Ghost Merchants. See all their films at Ghost Quest TV on YouTube… if you dare!
