Watch: All systems glow! Interactive artwork revealed in York city square

It’s a case of ‘bright lights, small city’ – as an interactive artwork made its debut in York.
This is Reunion, now installed in St Sampson’s Square.
An animated light art installation by Kumquat Lab, it features six connected technicolour arches which can be explored from all sides and within.
Originally created to celebrate people coming together again after the pandemic, Reunion is all about making connections.
It has been brought to the city by the York BID (Business Improvement District).
BID executive director Andrew Lowson explained why. “People sometimes need a lift when all the excitement of Christmas is over, and the nights are still dark,” he said.

“We hope people will welcome the opportunity to come into the city to see this exciting artwork, stay a while, and visit some local businesses while they’re here.”
The artwork is here until 6 February, and so will be on display during the Residents’ Festival weekend (28-29 January) and the Ice Trail event (4-5 February).
