Old Mother Goose has waddled off into the sunset. So what’s the name of the next Berwick Kaler spectacular?

As is tradition, the grand dame of York pantomime announced the title on the last night of this year’s show.

So what’s his 37th panto going to be? **Drumroll…**

Dick Whittington And His Meerkat.

Perhaps the writer and co-director of the York Theatre Royal is hoping for some sponsorship from a certain comparison website…?

This is what Berwick said:

I haven’t done Dick Whittington for 15 years, and I haven’t got any idea how the story will go yet but one thing’s for certain, everyone can expect the unexpected!

Full details of dates, times and price will be announced in due course. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 2, 2015.

Put a ring on it

Two people who were particular excited about the news were Ollie Croxson and Caroline Jones who got engaged on stage during the run of Old Mother Goose and will be returning to see Dick Whittington And His Meerkat as a married couple.

Ollie said:

Caroline’s been coming to see the York Theatre Royal panto with her family for the last 25 years, and I’ve joined her every year of the 6 we have been together.

We both love it and with the whole of Caroline’s family in the audience it seemed like the perfect place to propose. We can’t wait to return to the refurbished auditorium in December to see Berwick again and the 2015 title sounds hilarious.

The last night of the pantomime season at York Theatre Royal is always something special, with staff and crew invited to suggest pranks to play on cast members.

Even the audience is in on the joke, with a letter on their seats on arrival with instructions on how to give the actors a tough time on stage.
