A prehistoric monster took to the streets of York this weekend – and promptly made a few friends.
Tybalt the T Rex went for a walkabout. And aside from making one woman screech, and a few babies frown, the dinosaur brought a lot of smiles from the families he met.
The 2.2m high puppet is from the creators of Dinosaur World Live! which comes to the York Barbican later this month.
Backed by the York BID, the free event brought lots of dino fans young and old to the city centre.
Tybalt went on two walkabouts, emerging from the Guildhall. Most people just wanted to pat his scaly nose.
His appearance came as a ‘Meet the 999 Team’ event was on in Coney Street.
North Yorkshire Police, the Yorkshire Ambulance and the York Rescue Boat were all on hand with their vehicles to meet residents and talk about their work. The Street Angels had a stall too.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service were also due to attend but couldn’t make it on the day.
People took it in turn to climb into the saddle of an ambulance motorbike, or be cheerfully locked in the back of a police van for a few minutes.
