A main York road was closed on Saturday morning (June 24) after a water main burst.

A section of Hull Road was shut from about 8.30am after being flooded. The road was closed to traffic from Tang Hall Lane to Millfield Lane.

Traffic on both roads slowed to a standstill due to the diversions.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson described it as a “major leak”. Engineers from the company and City of York Council workers are at the scene.

It is not known how long the road will be closed for. Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
