If you go out in York tonight, be warned – there are strange creatures afoot.

These great pictures and video show the new Creatures Of The Shadows projections in the city centre.

Using technology never deployed in this way in the UK before, the animated snakes, dinosaurs, spiders and skulls are adding a big new thrill to York at Halloween.

They premiered at the Explore Library on Museum Street and York Castle Museum last night (Tuesday) and run till Halloween itself tomorrow (Thursday).

The dynamic projections, complete with sound, are the product of a collaboration between York BID (Business Improvement District) and Harrogate-based digital projection company Polestar Productions.

Hi-tech horror

Three projectors are harnessed by powerful computer technology to create an immersively spooky experience at each location.

Such tech is usually only deployed in cinemas and theatres. This is the first time it has been used in this country in a city setting.

Get along while you can – the shows are free.

Happy Halloween!
