Updated: Man ‘with suspicious package’ arrested by armed police on train to York
King’s Cross station platforms in London were evacuated after a security alert at around 8pm on Wednesday evening (8 December)
A man boarded a train to York with a suspicious package.
The train was evacuated as a precaution.
The man then came off the train and was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. A search of the train was carried out as a precaution. Platforms 1 to 7 were evacuated.
There were delays to trains on the line between London and Selby, York and Thirsk. It affected Grand Central, LNER and Hull Trains.
The 2000 LNER London to Sunderland via York service was getting ready to depart as the alert happened. The 2030 to Selby and Howden was also delayed.
Services started running again at around 9pm.
Josh Cunnington of York RI RUFC was on his way to Selby and said he saw a lot of police arrive at the station as the platforms were cleared.
