Two people have died and a third has been left badly injured after a car crashed on the A64.
Police were called to reports of a serious collision at around 11.50pm on Monday (3 May) near Tadcaster.
The vehicle had veered off the carriageway, trapping the driver and two passengers.
Sadly, the driver – a 22-year-old man – and the rear seat passenger – a 16-year-old boy – were pronounced dead.
The front seat passenger – a woman in her 20s – was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
All three occupants are from the West Yorkshire area.
The vehicle, a Vauxhall Insignia, was later reported stolen.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.
The carriageway was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and a police investigation into the collision is ongoing.
Anyone with information, including witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage, is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police.
