One of the leading visitor attractions in the York area was closed today (Tuesday) after a power outage.
Castle Howard urged people not to travel to the stately home because of the problem.
In a statement, the estate said: “Castle Howard is closed on 21st November 2023 due to a power outage.
“We’re advising everyone due to visit us today not to travel.
“We are very sorry for the inconvenience and are working hard to fix the problem. We are due to reopen as usual tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd November.”
Castle Howard will email those who had pre-booked with details of how to rebook for a different day or request a refund.
Earlier this month, the estate unveiled its Christmas spectacular, Christmas in Neverland.
The 300-year-old house has been transformed with floristry, installations, props, soundscapes, and projections, creating a Peter Pan-inspired festive experience.
Some who had made the journey today still enjoyed a tour around the extensive Castle Howard grounds.
One said on Facebook: “We didn’t get to see the exhibition but we still enjoyed our visit around the beautiful grounds. Free cakes softened the blow too.”
