This is the aftermath of last night’s fire
The fierce blaze on Dale Street, off Nunnery Lane, was put out by firefighters at about 12.30am this morning.
Now police have confirmed that two people have been arrested in connection with the fire.
Serious sexual assault in York
This is a man police want to question about a serious sexual assault on a woman aged 19 in York. They are also trying to trace a taxi driver who may have vital information.

He was questioned after the discovery of the body of a woman in a flat on Fourth Avenue, York.
Archbishop of York gets passionate about England
It seems everyone was caught up by football fever last night, as England won their first ever World Cup penalty shoot-out to beat Colombia and progress to the quarter finals.
That includes Archbishop of York John Sentamu, who was tweeting up a storm in the first half – but went quiet in the second, because “had to go into my Chapel to keep Calm and keep thought for our youngest players”.

Power cut hits York
There’s been a power cut in York this morning. The postcodes it is affecting are listed above. Northern Powergrid say the outage is due to “an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment” in the area.
They have already restored power to some of the 180 properties affected and hope to have everyone back on by 1pm.
