Corrie actor in town for classic comedy ‘reimagined for Brexit Britain’
The versatile star of everything from The Full Monty to Coronation Street, Steve Huison, arrived in York today for rehearsals of a brand new play.
Steve was among the cast and creative team preparing for the premiere of They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! at York Theatre Royal.
Best known for his roles as Lomper in The Full Monty and Eddie Windass in Corrie, Steve will star in the new show between October 5 and 13.
They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! is an adaptation by Deborah McAndrew of Dario Fo’s political satire of civil disobedience, ‘reimagined for Brexit Britain’.
It tells the story of Anthea who gets mixed up in a riot at her local supermarket and seizes the opportunity to stock her empty cupboards and those of her friend. But what will the two friends tell their law-abiding husbands?

More than 6,000 people have now signed a petition urging that the landlord of the Blue Bell in York is allowed to stay on.
We first reported in August that popular John Pybus was being forced out of the Fossgate pub by Punch Taverns.
The national pubco had served a Section 25 (lease termination and eviction) notice on John in response to his attempt to exercise his legal right to an improved deal under the Pubs Code.
That would have meant he lost his livelihood and his home.
But hundreds of people have rallied around John. At the time of writing nearly 6,100 people had signed the online petition urging Punch CEO Clive Chesser to think again.
The campaign featured on BBC Look North and in The Times.
And today John is meeting with Punch representatives to discuss the situation.

Firefigthers were called to York Hospital early this morning – not, thankfully, because of a fire. But a young man had a ring stuck on his finger.
A crew from York headed to the hospital at 1.20am and removed the ring with a ring cutter.
