You can meet the artist behind a new exhibition at Selby Abbey this weekend.
The artist in residence for Selby Stories, Serena Partridge, will be in the abbey between 10.30am to 1.30pm on these dates:
- Saturday 15 October
- Monday 17 October.
She’s an award-winning textile artist who has been busy creating minuscule embroideries inspired by the Abbey and other Selby stories.
You can meet Serena and chat about her work and ideas before exploring her Tiny Treasures installation around the abbey.
She’s already created four tiny pieces, inspired by the legendary Selby swans and Jay Chou, a Taiwanese pop star who married in Selby Abbey in 2015.
She is working on a number of other pieces inspired by flower displays in the abbey and will continue creating and installing pieces all the way through the remainder of 2022 and into 2023.
Serena will set up in one of the side aisles of the Abbey and will bring some of her work with her, including her magnifying light to show how she’s been working on the tiny needlepoints.
Serena Partridge is a textile artist based in Malton.
Other recent exhibitions include at the Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate, Crescent Arts in Scarborough and at the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth. More information about her can be found here.
Selby Stories is the cultural programme for the Selby High Street Heritage Action Zone.
Running until 2023, special events will celebrate the town, its history and what makes it unique. Selby is one of more than 60 high streets in the country to receive a share of funding from Historic England, along with funding from Selby District Council.
More information about the drop in sessions to meet Serena and the full Selby Stories programme can be found here.
