If you ever need to convince someone that York is the most beautiful city in the world, show them this film.

In less than two and a half minutes, you’ll have them convinced.

With its spectacular soaring shots of the city from the air, glorious scenes from the city’s history and vibrant depiction of York’s nightlife, it is a wonderful advert for the city.

Made by Easingwold-based production company Hewitt & Walker, run by talented York filmmaker Ollie Bostock, the film has been in production for a few months.

It features the National Railway Museum, Yorkshire Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre and many more of the city’s world class attractions, utilising timelapses, drone and video footage to show this magnificent city at its best.

Does anyone know the name of the accordionist? I listened to his music twice and I loved it.

More beautiful than I remembered. Visited twice while doing Viking research. Bought two antique teddy bears at an antique shop outside the gates.

Would appear that the drone footage is clearly illegal! Contravenes Civil Aviation Authority guidelines for responsible flying. Both Vimeo and youtube accounts have had comments disabled and deleted. Lot’s of CAA accredited companies severely peed off about this!

What a load of old tosh. Get back to writing your complaint letters to the Press you old trout. It’s a shame that when something does so well people want to throw their negative attitudes and comments into the hat. Be pleased someone from your City has made such a brilliant video.

It’s so sad that when something does well there’s always people who troll and leave negative comments. It’s the case that a lot of drone footage taken on Go pro cameras appears closer than it is. I am sure the video maker had the relevant permissions. It’s a brilliant video showing how great York is and the fact I’ve seem this shared all over Facebook and Twitter just proves it.

Mandy, not trolling at all. I congratulated them on the film when if first appeared online, particularly the ground based filming. I asked how they managed to get permission to fly as I wanted to go through the correct procedure, after some spurious reply I got my comments deleted. These things are dangerous, and flying what is effectively a flying lawnmower in urban areas without following the rules makes gaining permissions for accredited flyers more difficult. I was told the Council and Visit England gave them permission. Not sure how long Visit England and Council have been controlling British air space!

I actually know the film maker and understand that you sent quite an abusive email full of expletives about this, not sure which part of that is congratulatory. Having checked the Civil Aviation Authority website there are only tips for flying drones there is nothing to say they can’t be flown. Do you work for them or have any affiliation? Seems to me you’re just someone wanting to cause upset and trouble as you don’t have much else going on.

Really great video but missing a fantastic shot over Bootham Crescent the home of York City Football club which has provided professional sport in York for over 90 years, bringing thousands of visitors every season. It’s this kind of neglect which contributes to the sorry state the club are currently in.

It was meant to be part of the film, but unfortunately due to the poor weather and flooding the grounds were not in good condition when the filming was meant to happen. It’s not neglect!

We’re moving to York in June, and judging by the video and some of the lovely comments here, we’re going to love it. I really enjoyed the mix of old and new. Can’t wait!

It was not the building nor the road
That made me love York like gold …
It was the uniqeness, the love and the touch
Of people, history, the art and the Church !
York is beautiful by the day and night …
A little like Rome, small, cute and remote
A little like Germany, quite, calm but scapegoat !!

Some great shots and angles here and wonderful views of the city. The quality of the film is not great though which is a shame, looks flat and lacks contrast.

No pictures of Micklegate – no surprise there! No pictures of the traffic either… Cyclists on the pavement…. Nicely edited to give a very rose tinted view. Didn’t notice Mulberry Hall, but then that has gone now. Big shame there.

A York born and bred lady living in the USA now has so many happy memories of York and the countryside and coast so nearby./
As a child I roamed the Strays and Knavesmire was my favourite.
I had grandparents living in York and walked at the weekends to visit them. Aunts and Uncles too to see.
I saw the opening of the Odeon cinema . the many military parades too.
the circus passed our door enroute to the Knavesmire. so Elephants and other wild animals passed along the road too.
The Salvation Army to came along. Convoys of army vehicles came along.
The bus services had bus stops across the road from us outside the Convent buildings. Doctors surgeries and 2 fruit and veg. shops.
Mr and Mrs. Jenkinson with their lovely bakery next door. many a bag of buns we have had given. Mr.Arthur Rank and his son NOel had the butchers shop on Nunnery Lane corner. He kept us supplied with meat during the war time too. Mr. Hannon with his fruit and veg. shop. Bill Hardgrave and his wife with t heir fish and poultry shop fresh fish daily.
Arthur and Noel Rank with their butchers shop. kept us well supplied.’
Mr and Mrs. Almgill and Coxes shop plus a little sweet and tobacconist opposite were our sweet suppliers. Dr.Macpherson was our family doctor along with his partner. Percy Watson the Pharmacist on
Queen St. corner. The Bar Convent with its uniformed girls coming and going each day. The Odeon Cinema with its Saturday matinee with kids queuing down the side lane if it was a kids film.
Mr. Shearsmith and his bike and motor bike shop, plus some toys too.’
Mr. Boatfield on Moss St. corner, his son tried to mend my celluloid doll when I dented it. Mr and Mrs. Cheong at the Laundry kept my white overall clean for work for me. Storeys book shop kept us supplied with books too. Micklegate bar school still took some pupils and my sister attended asa 5 year old, we went to Sunday School there too.;
Charley and Mrs. Greaves with the Lion and Lamb pub, very popular locally. Good small, friendly businesses. We lived over Forselius, opposite the Convent and dad worked across the road a the other Forselius. He was there for years. leaving to go on his own after the war when he had chance of a small garage and was happy to work on his own.’
He was loved by Taxi drivers as he would turn out in the night if they broke down. Kitch as he was known was a popular man. He and mum would stand in the Grey Mare after he left work late in the evening. he would not sit down as he was I his overalls,
I could reminisce about York for hours. I was so lucky to have lived and worked there for so many years.

My second home is York, my mum has lived out that way for over 35yrs so lots of happy memories, theatre nights, meals out, walks on the wall, and the antique shops are fabulous, just love the quaint streets, the ghost hunts, the character and history of the place, which I hope York retains forever, unlike Leeds that has destroyed it all ….
I even took my son for a long weekend when he was about 8/9yrs old years old, just the two of us, one of our only holidays away on our own without other family and friends around.
We traveled by train, so excitement started early and we stayed in a hotel by the river.
The magic of the place soon takes you over.
Its a long weekend away we still talk about today : )
I would recommend this city for a short break to anyone !!

It’s a decent start but needs a bit of a mix up, a change of pace and music. It builds to a crescendo and doesn’t need to (very repetitive music when a gentler, warmer tune – or variety of tunes would have worked better). Seems to miss the ‘heart’ of York, its people – of all ages and backgrounds, the sound of laughter, market calls, buskers, oars slapping on the river, the variety of things to do, the independent shops and quaint houses in all the beautiful streets not just those who are sponsors. Just looks like you have to queue everywhere … and it’s all about tourist attractions. Shame.

Always one. It’s a fantastic video. I’m sure a 2 minute video would have sounded loads better with a “variety of tunes”. It absolutely captures the heart of York and features buskers and the variety of things on offer. None of the people featured are “sponsors” actually. Get over yourself – maybe you should have a go yourself if you think you can do better Jade

The music is so bad I had to stop it by the time it got to Clifford’s Tower. Dreadful corporate-sounding stock music that presents York as a second rate conference venue and not the living city that it is. So that makes two I’m afraid.

As someone who came to York because of its universities, I feel the video could have tried to include them. Thousands people graduate every year. Otherwise, this is the best thing on youtube.
