This is why part of Coney Street was cordoned off on Saturday

Part of Coney Street in York was cordoned off by firefighters today (Saturday).

Crews from York were called out at 3.44pm by gas engineers.

They were investigating a suspected gas leak at an empty property on the shopping street.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews put a cordon in place and used small tools to gain entry.

“Once inside the property was deemed safe and incident left in hands of gas board.”
