Unsuspecting shoppers were amazed today when a singing, dancing chocolate production line sprang up before their eyes.
One minute all was quiet, the next a group of factory workers in white coats and hairnets were regaling St Helen’s Square with renditions of classic songs.
The Yorkshire Day flashmob was all thanks to York’s Chocolate Story.
Sweet treats
Using community volunteers, they created a tribute to the singing confectionery production lines of old.
Songs from It’s a Long Way to Tipperary to Hound Dog drew a crowd of admirers, as the team brought a taste of the bygone Terry’s factory floor to the city centre.
And after enjoying a well-deserved round of applause, they dished out free chocolates to sweet lovers of all ages.
Event coordinator Ben Rosenfield said: “We decided to do something really different to celebrate this special day.
“Yorkshire isn’t just a place; it’s an attitude. We wanted it to be bold and brassy and celebrate York’s chocolate heritage!”
