We’re less than a week away from the return of the King and Queen Consort and preparations for the visit are well underway.
The King is back in York next Thursday (6 April) for the Maundy Service at York Minster.
Now the road closures coming into place for the visit have been announced.
They reveal that the King and Camilla, Queen Consort, will not be coming through the traditional royal entrance of Micklegate, as they did for their visit in November.
All the visit centres in and around the Minster this time round.
Here are the road closures and times.
Closed from 5pm, Wednesday 5 April till 4pm Thursday 6 April:
- College Street
Closed from 8pm, Wednesday 5 April till 4pm Thursday 6 April:
- Deangate (from Minster Yard to Goodramgate)
- Duncombe Place
- High Petergate (from Bootham Bar to Grape Lane)
- Minster Yard
- Minster Gates
- Precentor’s Court
- Stonegate.
The Queens Walk Footpath will also be closed at this time.
During the Minster service, the king will give 74 men and 74 women the Maundy, to thank them for their outstanding Christian service and for making a difference to the lives of people in their local communities.
There are 74 because that is the age of the monarch.
The king will also officially open the York Minster Refectory, now being created at the old Minster School.
