Police investigating inappropriate behaviour by a man in York are appealing for information from the public.

The man is believed to have made sexual comments towards an 18-year-old woman on two successive evenings.

Between 6.20pm and 6.25pm on Tuesday (September 26) the woman was standing near the end of York Station by the zebra crossing and taxi office.

A man walked across the zebra crossing towards her and when he was a couple of metres away he made comments of a sexual nature.

He then walked off towards the station.

Between 6.25pm and 6.30pm the next day, the same woman was standing in the same place when the same man approached from the crossing.

He leaned in to her and made further comments of a sexual nature before walking off.

Police have issued this description of the man.

Have you seen him?

The suspect is…

white
in his late 30s to 50 years old
5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall
of average build
with brown greying hair
wrinkles on his forehead and nose area
light brown eyebrows
and spoke with a gruff voice in a local accent

He was wearing

a light grey, plain hoodie with the hood up and black trousers (first incident)
a black hoodie or sweatshirt and black trousers (second incident).

This is the third investigation into sexual offences in York in the course of a week. Detectives have issued CCTV of a man they want to talk to in connection with a serious sexual assault on Bootham.

And they’ve arrested one man in an ongoing investigation into two other sexual assaults.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the incidents at the railway station, who recognises the man from the description or has any other information that could help the investigation.
