The service of Choral Evensong, which takes place at 4pm, is part of the nationwide celebration of the Queen’s coronation, which was held in Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 2 June 1953.
As well as performances by cathedral chamber choir Cantus, the service will include a prayer written by Westminster Abbey with the Queen’s approval, which will be used in the Service of Thanksgiving at the Abbey on 4 June.
Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, The Lord Mayor of York and the Sheriff of York will be among the attendees at Sunday’s service at York Minster.
The Dean of York, the Very Reverend Vivienne Faull, said: “A coronation is filled with religious significance and is first and foremost an act of worship. Sunday’s service at York Minster offers us a unique opportunity to celebrate 60 years of reign by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II while giving thanks to God for her dedicated service to nation and Commonwealth.”
