Six great gigs in York for Independent Venue Week
York has its fair share of incredible independent venues – and here’s an opportunity to celebrate them!
Independent Venue Week is a week-long celebration of music venues up and down the country – and this year its celebrating its 10th anniversary.
It was created in 2013 by I Like The Sound Of That Ltd with its first event in 2014, and takes place across the UK and also in the US.
This time round, it runs from Monday 30 January to Sunday 5 February.
The York venues taking part in Independent Venue Week this year are FortyFive Vinyl Café, The Crescent, The Fulford Arms and The York Vaults.

Youth Sector
Brighton five-piece art-rock outfit Youth Sector deliver an agitated and robotic sound – having supported the likes of Goat Girl, Our Girl, King Nun, Gaffa Tape Sandy, Walt Disco and The Pale White, Youth Sector’s blistering energy is palpable in their live performance.

Caitlin LM
Caitlin LM is an electronic songwriter and producer from Manchester. Her ethereal vocals and pulsating synths form a sense of groundedness and optimism, providing solace after a period of grief, instability, and upheaval. Taking inspiration from Björk, James Blake and Thom Yorke, her music flows from vulnerability to defiance, breathing visceral authenticity.

The Thieves + N.S.O + Palava
Brilliant night of indie rock headlined by Newcastle favourites The Thieves. The band are on the rise in 2023. The band played the Isle of Wight festival in 2022 and recently played the O2 in Glasgow. If you like The Arctic Monkeys, you’ll love this. Plus supports: N.S.O. and Palava.

Anna Meredith + Elsa Hewitt
Described by Pitchfork as ‘one of the most innovative voices in British music’, Anna Meredith is a genre-crossing composer and producer whose work straddles the worlds of contemporary classical, art pop, electronica and experimental rock. Motel Sundown
Liverpool based trio Motel Sundown are a combination of three singer-songwriters who met in 2016 on the local music scene. With each member taking the lead combining three part harmonies, their gorgeous debut album ‘If You Were Listening’, a beautifully melodious melting pot of Country, Americana and Folk-Rock, made all the richer by their beguiling three-part harmonies. The album was produced by Mercury Prize nominee ‘Andy Ross’ and features Pedal Steel legend Gerry Hogan.
