Shocking pictures show man on top of the riverside gantry in York – after risking his life to climb to the top

These dramatic pictures show the moment when a man risked his life by the river in York.

They were taken yesterday afternoon (Friday, 2 April).

A man climbed to the top of the gantry connected to Woodsmill Quay on Queen’s Staith.

The structure is clearly not safe to be climbed. But he took the risk and climbed to the top, bowing when he got there.

These pictures were taken by riverside resident Michael Neal. He said he wanted to make it clear that it was a very dangerous stunt and could have ended in tragedy.

Police were alerted to the incident. The man climbed down and made his way to King’s Staith, which is where police arrested him.
